Enters The Sunlight Writer

After 176 hours of thinking, 256 minutes of browsing, 12 heated internal discussions and 234 days of doubting the Sunlight Writer finally decided to write the first blog post ever.

New beginnings are always hard. There are so many ideas floating around, so many things you want to tell, yet you stare at the blank space hesitantly. Who will even read it? Will anyone ever like it? Doesn’t it sound boring?… Next, you start scrolling for tips how to write a blog post, what pictures to put, how to attract readers and so forth. You’ve seen all these well-versed professional writers and bloggers out there and you are no match to them. So what to do? Shall we quit? Let’s not waste the time if it’s meant to fail anyway.

Yes, those are the somber thoughts of a hobby writer who wants their writing to be something, not certain what yet, but something big and nice. Maybe when we want a thing to succeed a bit too much we are too anxious and we self-sabotage. But I’m sure many of us have experienced similar emotions when we started something new at one point or another. It’s inevitable unfortunately.

Things can be much easier, I promise. You just need to ask yourself several simple questions and answer yourself honestly, in a written form, so that other people can read it. Not that I encourage talking to yourself as opposed to someone else who would also listen to you gladly. However, sometimes some self-reflection is necessary to understand yourself before you go on to convincing others. Who else, if not you, is going to know what you would like to tell. And what a big shame it would be if you don’t tell it!

With all of the above in mind, here comes the first ever post. Let’s begin with the questions:

  • What is this blog going to be about?
  • Why does it exist?
  • What would I like to achieve with it?
  • What makes me so competent to spread wisdom around?

The Blog

I have seen my fare share of blogs about writing and aspiring writers out there. Naturally, I want this blog to be unique and not limited in frames or constrained in the specific topics. Hence, contrary to what you might have imagined, I am not giving advice about how to write a book, how to plan a story, how to make an unforgettable character or how to market your book. (At least not until I know more about these things.) Neither will I try to sell you my books and self-promote. (Since in fact I haven’t published a single line of all things I have written and I am far from being a professional writer.)

What I can offer you, though, is simply my perspective about writing, about reading, about life in general. I can share with you my idea why everything you write – however short or primitive or in whatever form – matters and why you should never refrain from expressing what is on your mind and what you regard important. It is irrelevant what you write (blogs, fiction, non-fiction, poetry, research papers) as long as you have the courage to do it and voice your thoughts.

I have not determined with certainty what my blog posts are going to look like because ideas are often born spontaneously, but I can assure you that I will be as honest and enthusiastic about the topic as I can be. I will strive to provide quality content, and brighten things up, and philosophize a little, and hopefully even inspire. What is most important, I want this blog to be a place for everyone to find something that they like or feel good reading. There is a great joy in being an amateur blogger since you do it all for yourself and you are free to write about whatever is in your mind. I hope that through my posts you can find a different perspective or something you can relate to.

My Reasons and Goals

I started this blog because I felt that something in my overly-crowded routine is missing. I had many thoughts to share and I wanted to write but then always something turned up or there was someone to distract me. I used to be able to write quite often during my school years, which unfortunately had to change during the course of my university studies. Thus, I ended up in a small writer’s block, as many call it, with a lot of unexpressed creativity inside of me.

I decided that if I want to pick up the habit of producing some written material again and give voice to this unexpressed creativity, a blog can be the first step to it. I have heard the advice that many productive writers/bloggers give – to set myself a certain time limit for writing. For some that might work, but sadly not for me. As long as there is a time limit, all my creativity seems to disappear in thin air. Thus, I concluded that in my current situation – finishing a legal bachelor and doing an internship at a financial firm – a little cozy blog would be my best option and the creative boost I need.

It was not merely pragmatism that led me to this idea of blogging. I have dreamed for a long time of having a place where I can talk as much as I want about things I like and possibly engage with other people interested in the same topics. I did not necessary want to make any money out of it, since I tend to differentiate between my hobby and my job. If I am completely honest, my goal for this blog is simply to get some pure personal satisfaction and I will be happy if it gives someone as much satisfaction to read it as it gives me to write it. So, in short, I want to share, and speak up, and be useful or at least try my best to connect with those who read it.

Who I am

When I look at my creation so far I see that I talked a lot about myself. Well, bear with me a little longer. I am responsible to tell you why you should care about anything I write at all. I cannot claim that I am a professional with lots of experience. I also cannot say that I have written any blog articles before, with the exception of one which is not really relevant to our activities here. However, I can promise you some honest content, something from the heart and something written with big enthusiasm and with my best effort.

I believe for some things it is not expertise and knowledge that we seek but rather understanding and someone to relate to. Having said all this, to the question who I am I can only answer in one way: I am a starter and a dreamer. I hope that you will enjoy my blog posts. Keep in mind that I am always open to ideas or any comments that you might have. Simply drop them in the comment section. Happy Reading!

Yours Sincerely,

D. D.
